Curve Works for the Marine industry
The design and build of unique composite boat structures on a budget is now a possibility. Curve Works uses an automated adaptive mould, which configures itself directly from your 3D CAD drawings into the desired form. This, combined with our convection and infra-red heating capabilities allows us to create singly and doubly curved panels to a high surface quality, quickly, efficiently and most importantly, affordably.
Application of the adaptive mould
The adaptive mould system enables:
Curved composite panels made by means of hand lamination, vacuum infusion or pre-pregging. We can offer monolithic, stiffened or sandwich panels. Details can be incorporated by placing silicon profiles on the mould.
Curved panels for tooling which, compared to pasta-moulds, are:
- low cost
- have shorter lead times
- suitable for high-temperature curing
Thermoforming of foam cores, resulting in less resin uptake compared to Grid-Scored-Core panels
Thermoforming of thermoplastic curved plates (PC, PMMA, PP, PP-composites and many more) which, compared to traditional vacuum forming, are:
- more affordable
- have shorter lead times
Composite panel assembly, which is for small series a more lead-time- and cost-effective production process compared to the traditional plug → laminated mould → vacuum-infusion process.
Panel assembly of the tooling, which is for small series a more lead-time- and cost-effective production process compared to the traditional plug → laminated mould assembly processes.
Possibility for repair or replacement of damaged parts.
Flexibility for different manufacturing techniques
For components such as hatches, Curve Works offers vacuumed infused fibre reinforced composite panels produced directly on the mould. Panels can even be produced co-infused with details such as stiffener reinforcements.
