Petronella - the world's first pre-formed wooden boat

Description: The customer’s brief was for a sustainable pleasure boat of 6m length. Boatyard Roelof Underweis developed a concept of a wood/bamboo hybrid boat assembled from a kit of pre-formed panels. Curve Works used their adaptive moulds to shape all sections of the boat and trimmed them to net-shape. The boat’s own bulkheads and ribs were used as the assembly jig of the wooden panels, which were bonded in place. The use of a pre-formed kit allowed a much faster build of the boat compared to the current state-of-the-art in wooden boat-building.
